change-of-major admissions
Students currently or formerly enrolled in other UT-Austin degree programs who wish to enroll in architecture or interior design must submit a Change-of-Major Application to the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs by March 3. Applications are available from the Office of the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs each January. Students may apply for fall admission only. Students must have completed a minimum of 24 semester hours of UT-Austin coursework by the end of the spring semester in which they apply, and they should have a minimum 3.25 UT-Austin grade point average. Frequently, the grade point average cut-off is higher, depending on the pool of applicants and the number of spaces available.
All prospective School of Architecture majors must attend ONE of the following information sessions before they apply during the spring semester. We will discuss the admissions process and spring course registration.
Sessions will be held in the Dean's Conference Room of GOL 2.308 from 4-5pm. The fall 2007 dates are:
September 12
September 18
October 11
October 24
November 6
November 14
Fall or Summer Start
The School of Architecture will consider students for fall semester admission only. Students must indicate on their application whether they intend to begin in the summer or fall semester. Students who intend to begin in the summer must: 1) indicate on their application that they intend to begin the design sequence in the summer; 2) register for the summer sessions of Design I and II and Visual Communication I and II courses during their first registration access period in the spring; and 3) meet the pre-requisites (M408C or M408K & L and PHY 302K and 102M). The summer program consists of both summer sessions and students are in class from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. everyday.
Admissions for change of major students vary from year to year dependent upon available space.
