Course Description

The Envision Central Texas Plan was completed 18 months ago. That vision was the result of a public participation process including 12,000 people. The public chose the alternative which called for compact walkable centers throughout the region linked by rail as well as roads and articulated by open space, (where not to build).

The Trust for Public Land (T.P.L.) will initiate their formalized GIS based open space planning process known as Greenprinting in early September. This class will engage the Greenprinting process with research and mapping and by organizing a public exhibition. There will be a special emphasis on the SH 130 corridor, a few thousand acres east of Austin which is developing rapidly.

There will be field trips, guided tours, special classes in GIS technology, guest lectures, and teamwork on special sub topics. The end product will be the T.P.L. Greenprint, individual student research, a definitive regional open space map, and a public exhibition of the results. (Hopefully at City Hall in early December).
