CRP 386:
Introduction to Quantitative Methods
Instructor:
Terry Kahn
Educational Objective
The Introduction to Quantitative Methods is designed to provide the planning student with a working set of basic statistical tools. Methods offered here provide a broad range of analytical skills which will help prepare students for the advanced and applied techniques to be encountered in CRP980Y. This course, or successful completion of a screening exam, is required of all planning students.
Educational Approach
The course format is the standard lecture/response seminar. Ample time during class is allowed for questions and clarification of the numerous examples presented. Problem sets are provided for each section of the course.
Course Content
Specific topics to be covered include probabilities and central tendency, sampling, hypothesis testing, and time series and regression analysis. Planning applications and orientation are employed as examples whenever possible. The breadth of topics to be covered will necessarily limit tangential exploration, so the course outline will be followed rather closely.
Course Schedule and Outline
Both are attached.
Text/Reference Material
There is no text for this course. Reference materials are on reserve.
