Visual Communication II

Course Description

Study of a variety of interpretive and design representation skills directed to support the survey, design, and presentation needs of landscape architects. Six laboratory hours a week for one semester.

Prerequisite: Graduate standing and concurrent enrollment in Landscape Architecture 391.

There will be coordinated activities between LAR 391 & LAR 381L.

Pedagogic Objectives

  • To explore drawing as a vehicle for inquiry and for intensifying perception
  • To introduce diagramming as a vehicle for analyzing and understanding formal properties
  • To introduce the difference between description, analysis, and interpretation in the study of a work of landscape architecture.
  • To introduce constructed projections as a means of communicating spatial volumes, experience, material and texture.
  • To advance skill development in both analog and digital representation methods

Time Commitment

Class times as stated in the Graduate Catalog, and as much additional time as necessary to meet the objectives of the course. Participation and attendance in all pin-ups are required. Absences will be accepted only with appropriate documentation from a physician.

Basis of Grade

The final grade will be determined by the faculty review of the student's projects, and the extent of the student's development during the semester, according to the following breakdown:

  • Sketchbook 10%
  • Weekly Exercises 85%
  • Class Participation 5%
