fall 2007
ARC 560R/696:
Advanced Design
Instructor:
Sinclair Black
This studio will deal with urban design opportunities in the Austin area. Each person or team will undertake a specific project selected from a large list or derived from class discussion.
Austin opportunities are everywhere. Urban infill, Town Lake edges, Green Water Treatment Plant, state land everywhere, IH 35, and of course the wasteland between MLK and the Capitol. In addition there are the corridors to densify and revitalize as well as TODS (Transit Oriented Design/Development).
Our projects from this studio will become an exhibition at the International Congress for the New Urbanism to be held in Austin in April 2008 i.e. one year from now.
Studio will be coordinated with Dean Almy's Urban Design Studio as well as with 2 urban design seminars.
At the beginning of the semester, students with disabilities who need special accommodations should notify the instructor by presenting a letter prepared by the Services for Students with Disabilities Office. To ensure that the most appropriate accommodations can be provided, students should contact the SSD Office at 471-6259 or 471-4641 TTY.
