I. CATALOG DESCRIPTION: (3 cr.) Designing for Human Behavior. Issues of mood, privacy, perception, proxemics, and preferences applied to the design of interiors. Three seminar/discussion/lecture hours per week.
II. PREREQUISITES: Restricted enrollment; contact the department for permission to register for this course.
III. COURSE OBJECTIVES: The student will be able to:
… Research on designing interiors for human interactions within built environments.
… Apply environmental and behavioral research in homes, workplaces, and other commercial spaces.
… Advise how to design interiors for human interactions within built environments.
… Conduct basic research into the mysteries of person-environment relations.
… Evaluate new and renovated facilities.
IV. METHODS OF PRESENTATION: Seminar, discussion, presentations, and design projects based on readings and observation and course content. Illustrative material, visual aids such as slides, films, and illustrations; field trips, guest speakers when appropriate.
V. TEXT, REFERENCES, AUXILIARY MATERIALS: As a minimum, students are expected to spend about two hours of outside preparation for every hour in class. Required readings are outside preparations for this course and should be completed before class for the day they are assigned.

VI. CLASS AND ATTENDANCE POLICIES: Class attendance is required and will be monitored. An attendance sign-up sheet will be circulated each day for attendance. Your success in this class comes from attendance. Woody Allen said, "Being there is 98% of success."
VII. EXAMINATIONS: Grades will be based on two examinations or projects (each worth 20% of the final grade), two short papers (20%), in-class quizzes (10%), and a final examination or project (30%).
