Prerequisites
For graduates and undergraduates. Permission of instructor is required and enrollment is limited to 15. This course may be taken independently of Frank Lloyd Wright: Life and Work, but students who have taken a previous course on Wright=s work will especially benefit from this workshop
Course Format
This seminar/workshop will focus on studying concepts of organic design, including the design principles of Frank Lloyd Wright's work. After a survey of models and definitions of Aorganic architecture, students will conduct a series of analytical exercises to identify the methods of Wright designs. Analyses will utilize drawings, photographs, and other documentary materials. Following the analytical exercises, students will generate their own designs using Aorganic@ principles. Analyses and design studies that are virtual or computer generated are encouraged.
Educational Objectives
The course intends to develop skills for analyzing design processes in a theoretical and historical context and to apply those analyses to generate form; to familiarize the student with design principles of organic architecture.
Evaluation
Grades will be based on class participation and analytical exercises (two-thirds) and a final project (one-third).
