Educational Objectives:
The course provides an overview and working knowledge of environmental inventory, site assessment, and landscape analysis and planning, as practiced by land and environmental planners. The course is intended primarily for graduate students in community and regional planning, urban design, civil engineering, and physical geography. Development of practical skills with "hands on" experience in applying environmental analysis and planning techniques is emphasized.

PREREQUISITE:
Applied Planning Methods (CRP 980Z) or consent of instructor

Educational Approach:
The course will begin with lectures and discussions. A series of practical lab assignments will complement the lectures/discussions to provide relevant experience in commonly used environmental analysis techniques. There will be a combination of individual and group assignments.

A comprehensive studio project spanning one-half of the semester will follow, supplemented by field trips and interviews and group meetings to gain input from professionals and community leaders. The course will provide opportunities to conduct literature and field research, make actual assessments and plans to minimize the impacts of proposed new developements, and interact with professionals, community leaders and citizens in organized meetings.
