This seminar probes color, sound and light as empirical entities in architecture, and as areas of theoretical and poetic inquiry.

The focus will be on developing a practice of color, acoustics and lighting. We will look at documents, literature and other devices as a means of describing, representing, and specifying conditions of color and lght in the production of architectural spaces. The work of Josef Albers is engaged through practical exercises based on The Interaction of Color course. Additive and subtractive color theories, acoustics and materiality, the business of color, and pertinent health, safety and welfare conditions are analyzed through the lens of perception, phenomenology and art.

Please note: Students not enrolled in ARI 530T must have the permission of the instructor in order to register.
