History of Architecture, Survey III

Course Format: Bi-weekly lectures will introduce the issues and architecture of the twentieth century. Discussions will continue in weekly section meetings. In addition, a series of films and videos are included to supplement study. Materials for the course will be available through experimental use of the University's new Blackboard system of on-line access.

Educational Objectives: The course intends to introduce students to the themes and issues of modern architecture from the late 1890s to recent historical developments; to familiarize students with the major buildings of the twentieth century and their architects; and to develop analytical skills in discussing architecture through one research paper and one group project.

Evaluation: Grades will be based on a research paper, group project, mid-term exam, and final exam as well as attendance at lectures and section meetings.
