Sending Files between computers in Sutton Lab using FTP

To send files between or within computer networks (e.g., PC and Mac network in Sutton Lab, or between your home computer and the lab)

Use a file transfer program (FTP) program (see instructions below) to first send the file from one network (e.g., the PC's or your home) to an intermediary location (our anonymous ftp server named "mather.ar.utexas.edu"), then go sit down at a computer on the other network (e.g., the Macs) and retrieve the files from the intermediary location.  Note  that for this to work, you must be using a computer with the "utexas.edu" domain. If you don't connect to the Internet through UT or UT Connect, it won't work.

The information needed for putting files on our FTP server is:

• Host: mather.ar.utexas.edu
• User-id: anonymous
• Password: your e-mail address
• Go to the pub/temp2weeks/ directory - you can send files to this directory. Create a sub-directory here to contain your files.  Files placed on this directory may be removed by the network administrator after a week, but it will be a big help if you remember to remove it yourself when you are finished.
