The Austin Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) has announced the winners of the 2016 AIA Austin Student Awards. Each year, studio instructors nominate the strongest work to be considered for Design Excellence recognition. Conferred at the completion of each semester, the awards further the school's shared goal with the AIA of recognizing and rewarding design excellence across all programs and levels. A group of faculty select projects for each semester and at the close of the Spring term, a selection of student work, further narrowing the pool of exceptional design, is installed in the Mebane Gallery in Goldsmith Hall.

In May, the AIA Austin jury met to review the Design Excellence exhibition and to pick three projects to recognize. This selection represents studio work that has achieved a high level of design skill, visual communication, and beautiful representation. Each winner receives a certificate, and the top prize comes with a $500 gift. The Design Excellence exhibition will remain on display in the Mebane Gallery through September 2.
