How to Apply

Students with a prior professional Interior Design degree from a program accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) or from a program accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) are eligible to apply for the Master of Interior Design post-professional degree.

The MID Post-Professional program facilitates basic research, advanced studies, and specialization within the field. Pedagogically, this degree interrogates the usual assumptions interior designers make about the role interior design plays in the evolution of the built environment.

All students in this post-professional degree program engage in core coursework in advanced Interior Design and self-directed research in an area of individual interest. Students will also take a design studio where they will travel and study with a distinguished scholar or educator. All students must complete a written master's thesis contributing to the knowledge base of interior design or a master's design studio.

PROGRAM STRUCTURE

Specific degree requirements will be established for each individual graduate student based on their interests and an evaluation of their application materials

Within the MID program structure, students are required to identify a field of concentration and complete electives within that area. Examples of concentrations might include Design and Theory; Sustainable Design; Health, Wellness and Aging; Art and Art History; Film, Theater, and Television; Historic Preservation; Business and Work Environments; or Museum Studies, to name a few. These courses may be selected from other departments or within the School of Architecture.
