Planning
Course Description
This course can be offered at both the upper undergraduate level and the graduate level of planning program to provide comprehensive understanding of planning theory and practice. The course covers a broad range of topics from the background history of city planning to current planning approaches and practices in the areas of land use planning and growth management, transportation, suburban and urban design, local economic development, environmental planning, affordable housing, planning information systems, and citizen participation.
The course may consist of readings, lectures, lab practices, field tours, and class discussion, and each instructors can customize their own versions of syllabi based upon class goals and students' demands.

(Each group is assigned to focus on different aspects (for example, environment, economy, transportation, housing) of a real urban planning project in local context. They present their analyses on problem identifications, methods, and planning process, and propose creative ideas to integrate different functions in planning.
