Sunlight is energy! Sun can bring light and heat into the home, but we need to control it to avoid glare and overheating. The shade screen over the front windows admits the sun in winter but keeps it out in summer.

Other ways the BLOOMhouse adapts to the environment through its skin, which responds to the wind, and through modified dancehall shutters, which allow for enormous flexibility in terms of light, heat, fresh air & ventilation, and privacy. Ample sunlight brightens up the BLOOMhouse interior and reduces the need for electric lights. Large moveable screens filter light entering the East end of the house and define outdoor spaces.
