Over 3,000 new images of architecture, applied design, and American popular culture are available in ARTstor. Collections shared by the Minneapolis College of Art and Design Slide Library and Bryn Mawr College include images of site plans for ancient and medieval architectural and archeological sites along with images of American pop culture and design. Photographs of American architecture taken by Dov Friedman have also been added.

Karnak, one of the largest temple complexes in the world, “stands as a micro-cosmos of ancient Egypt.” Egyptologists and technologists at UCLA have made their research available, free of charge, to a broad audience. The site is information-rich and interactive. A Timemap allows you to scroll through the eras and see how Karmak has evolved over the years. Also included are a model in Google Earth, an extensive photo archive, 3-d renderings, narrative descriptions of the remains, and educational videos.

The Victoria and Albert Museum has launched a Beta version of Search the Collections taking its online collection from 55,000 object records to over a million. Records have been taken from the V&A’s existing collection, and are in dynamic state of process with new information being added over time. As work on the site continues, the V&A plans to incorporate crowd sourcing, an API, saved searches and additional linking.

Over 18,000 images of the ancient sites Dura-Europos in Syria and Jerash in Jordan are now available on ARTstor. Yale University sponsored archaeological expeditions to the sites in the early twentieth century and has amassed an archive that includes plans, and photographs of the remains of Hellenistic buildings. Images of objects from the Yale University Art Gallery collection have also been digitized.

Sites and Photos, an archaeology image bank, is contributing 90,000 images to the ARTstor digital library in order to expand its coverage of the ancient world. Extant Megalithic, Greco-Roman, Islamic, and Medieval architecture and decorative arts are included.
Sites and Photos, a great resource in and of itself, includes an Architectural Archive organized both by building type and function. The archive acts as a visual dictionary for ancient architectural motifs, structures and construction methods.
