
The Victoria and Albert Museum has launched a Beta version of Search the Collections taking its online collection from 55,000 object records to over a million. Records have been taken from the V&A’s existing collection, and are in dynamic state of process with new information being added over time. As work on the site continues, the V&A plans to incorporate crowd sourcing, an API, saved searches and additional linking.

12,000 images from The American Institute of Indian Studies (AIIS) are now available in ARTstor. The collection will eventually contain over 60,000 images of South Asian art and architecture selected from the AIIS Photo Archive in Gurgaon, Haryana, India. The AIIS is a consortium of universities in the United States which engage in the research and study of India. A portion of the collection is already available online at the American Institute of Indian Studies Center for Art and Archeology Photo Archive at the University of Chicago.
In addition, ARTstor has also collaborated with Carl and Jennifer Strom to digitize and make available 3,200 images of Korean Buddhist monasteries and temples. The Storms traveled throughout Korea in the 1970s, documenting over 120 religious sites.

WorldImages has included 1,500 images of Japanese gardens, homes, palaces, temples, and shrines in its digital collections. The WolrdImages databases includes almost 75,000 images for many academic disciplines. The material is free of charge for educational purposes.

You can explore 28,400 photographs taken by missionaries between 1850 and 1950, that represent the interaction of African, Asian and European cultures. Rahul Mehrotra & Sharada Dwivedi have completed a visual interpretation of historic photographs from India and Emmanuel Akyeampong has completed one for West Africa and Asia.
