During 2012-2013, the Architectural Conservation Lab worked with Texas Parks and Wildlife to study the effects of the 2010 wildfires on cultural resources in Bastrop State Park. This Office of Sponsored Projects grant was funded by the National Park Service. Work included developing information about assessing fire damage to historic structures, providing advice for stabilizing conditions resulting from exposure to the fire, and developing guidelines for protecting cultural resources from future damage associated with wildfire. ACL Director Fran Gale headed up the UT Austin team which included Historic Preservation alumna Casey Gallagher and graduate student Miriam Tworek-Hoffstetter. Miriam presented her Bastrop State Park thesis project at the annual meeting of the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Work. The grant report was completed in June, 2013.
