The Materials Lab will be hosting a two-part workshop on April 13th and 15th discussing ways to address our carbon dioxide emissions in the use of concrete. In the first part of the workshop on Tuesday, April 13th we will be joined by three guests for a virtual conversation about what the City of Austin and companies within the construction industry are doing to tackle carbon emissions in concrete use. Tom Ennis who is an environmental engineer and Sustainability Officer at the City of Austin will be joining James Prewitt, Technical Service Manager at the central Texas based concrete manufacturer Lauren Concrete, Inc. and Brandon Williams, Market Development Manager at CarbonCure Technologies.
On April 15th we will be joined by Dougal Heap of Blue Planet Ltd for a presentation on their carbon sequestering concrete products, followed by a practical concrete casting activity/exercise. The Materials Lab will be providing kits containing cement, sand, and Blue Planet’s CO2 sequestered aggregate, as well as chip board molds, and a small piece of a concrete impregnated fabric that can be free formed. Kits are available to pick up or can be shipped.
