Good System

UT launched the third and final Bridging Barriers grand challenge--Good Systems on September 20th, 2019.

Researchers from more than two dozen departments and units have come together over the last year with the mission of designing values-driven artificial intelligence technologies. They’re asking important questions: How can we develop and evaluate intelligent systems and avoid dangerous unintended consequences? Can we use and regulate AI-based technologies with societal values and ethics at their core? What makes a system “good”?

Their work will help us better understand what changes new technologies bring, predict how those changes will unfold, and mitigate the harms they could cause while leveraging the benefits AI provides. Please take a moment to read about the Good Systems team and the Year One funded projects taking shape this fall.

The Urban Information Lab is one of the major research units within the Good System. It has finished the year zero project and is currently working on the year one project. Dr. Junfeng Jiao is the chair-elect for the Good Systems grand challenge.
