A big challenge in green infrastructure installation as it relates to drainage infrastructure is pollutant load removal. Stormwater runoff has varying degrees of pollution depending on the types of surfaces it flows upon. New technology and product assemblies are evolving to manage pollutant loads and keep waterways from receiving dangerous nutrients and other chemicals. Much of what drives this innovation is the need for cities to receive MS4 permits, or permits that allow water to discharge into 'waters of the US' (rivers, bays, oceans, bayous, etc).

Helix, a high-flow stormwater filter system, is designed in a spiral form, allowing multiple flow paths maintaining a flow rate of 3 cubic feet/sec while reducing clogging through the filter. It has a two-step treatment process that separates pollutants upfront, which can be installed either directly into an outfall pipe or housed in a vault.
