Two interior design seniors have received First Place and Third Place awards, respectively, from the International Interior Design Association's (IIDA) annual Student Design competition.

The 2014 challenge was to evolve the concept of the open office and offer employees a workplace that encourages health, well-being, collaboration, and productivity.

Amanda Heineman received First Place for her "Spark" project. Description: "Spark evolves the open office workplace concept by providing its employees with choice through the introduction of flexibility and variety in three unique work environments, aptly named Ignite, Trigger, and Kindle."

Gisella Allen received Third Place for "Flourish." Description: "Flourish is a coworking space that takes the open office concept to a new and innovative level. Employee well-being is elevated at Flourish by implementing a work-life cycle in which members are encouraged to work uninterrupted for 90 minutes and then take a break to relax, renew, and replenish."

Both projects were produced in Assistant Professor Tamie Glass's spring 2014 Design VI – Sound Building studio.

Heineman's and Allen's full projects may be viewed on IIDA's web site.
