Junfeng Jiao (PI) and a group of researchers from School fo Information, Public Policy, Economics and City of Austin have recently won a NSF CIVIC Innovation Challange Grant (Phase 1--$50,000). Due to issues of housing affordability, Americans often must live far from their jobs. This spatial mismatch causes commuter traffic congestion resulting in an annual $29 billion loss to the US economy. Furthermore, many transportation systems were designed decades ago for outdated working and living patterns, often leaving communities without the transportation infrastructure they need. This project addresses these issues through development of a novel “Community Hub for Smart Mobility” (CHSM) concept.
Jiao will lead the team to submit the Phase 2 grant application in 2021.
