Convention Center Space-making and Downtown Place-Making: The Physical and Economic Planning Implications of Alternative Convention Center Scenarios
Center for Sustainable Development
The Center for Sustainable Development was founded in 2001 with a mission to lead the study and practice of sustainable development in Texas, the nation, and the world through complementary programs of research, education, and community outreach. The CSD is unique in its integration of diverse interests to develop creative, balanced, achievable solutions to the physical and social challenges facing the planning, construction, and preservation of buildings, neighborhoods, and regions.
We see the interconnected nature of the ‘sustainability challenge’ as central to our work; we attempt—through our projects, interdisciplinary teaching and ongoing working groups—to better understand the connections between environment, economic prosperity and social justice.
This conference is for the next generation of community engaged designers and planners. We will gather in Salt Lake City at the University of Utah from May 20-24, 2019 for five days of workshops and field trips and meeting peers from 13 other amazing universities. At the Design Futures Student Leadership Forum, we frame the conversation broadly, but try to engender leadership and skill-building for future leaders hoping to use design as a tool for social equity in and with historically marginalized communities. Please send your resume and application to email@example.com. Applications are due by March 1, 2018. There will be an information session on Wednesday February 13th, 11:45am, in the Main Jury Room (GOL 2.110).
