Foundation Communities promotes whole-life living by leveraging diverse transportation opportunities, affordable housing, and pedestrian oriented amenities. In its M-Station development in Austin, Texas, the foundation plans to develop a downtown model for increasingly important Mixed-income Transit Oriented Developments (TOD). Snell supported research identified and reviewed precedents for increasing pedestrian safety through community-centered art installations, which would contribute to an identifiable and unique character for the development. The final report presented examples of an array of strategies drawn from projects around the world. These strategies were then applied to the M-Station site in schematic design drawings. This project was supervised by Dr. Allan W. Shearer.
The project supported two graduate research assistants. These students are a Ph.D. student in the Community and Regional Planning program and a student in the first-professional Master in Landscape Architecture program.
