Landmarks Collections Assistant

Ali is a graduate student at The University of Texas at Austin School of Architecture where she is pursuing a Master of Science in Historic Preservation with a concentration on architectural conservation. Throughout her studies, Ali has worked with the Edgar Miller Legacy, Chicago; the University Presbyterian Church, Austin; and the City of Dallas, completing condition and finish analysis projects on a variety of buildings and materials. Currently, Ali works as the collections assistant at Landmarks, UT’s public art program, where she is responsible for performing monthly condition reports and minor conservation treatments on a collection of forty-plus indoor and outdoor sculptures. Ali also holds a graduate research assistant position through the Historic Preservation Department.
Prior to entering graduate school, Ali spent time working as both a conservation technician and craftsperson. This combination has allowed her to develop hand-skills in traditional techniques as well as an understanding of conservation practices and ethics. A majority of her previous work and research is centered on decorative glass windows, their technological development, degradation mechanisms, and preservation. The focus of her current research centers on the treatment of fire-damaged, opalescent stained glass from the 19th and 20th century for which she has been the recipient of the American Glass Guild, James C. Whitney Scholarship; the Stained Glass Association of America, Dorothy L. Maddy Academic Scholarship; and the APT Texas, Educational Grant.
