Situated on 9th and Red River Street, the new home for the Austin Hellcats roller derby team interacts with the city grid corridor and the new Waller Creek pedestrian and bike trail. The sound building curriculum demands a thorough understanding of the sizing and integration of structural and air handling systems.
Dual entrances bring occupants in from Red River street coming to bowl or skate before a concert next door at Stubbs as well as people walking along Waller Creek who are attracted by the roar of the derby stadium. Both entrances allow visitors to rent skates or bowling shoes for the day and proceed vertically through the building starting at the most casual level with the roller derby rink moving to a family bowling, free-skating, and restaurant level and ending at the fourth floor bar and bowling lounge that overlooks the third floors bowling lanes and skating roof. The more casual roller skating program and family bowling are oriented toward Waller Creek while the adult bowling floor aims west to downtown Austin and the capitol.
