With the design focus on horizontal circulation as framed by vertical fenestrations to capture a moment of solitude in a shared space. How can one feel in solitude while simultaneously sharing a space with others? In Edward Hopper's work subjects are often seen in the same room, but separated by some sort of invisible barrier, giving a feeling of solitude. In this project, a look of separation is created through the fenestrations which frame each person in their own space and time as they walk by, and eventually stop to work or sleep. A second consideration is given to the importance of light and shadow and how it contributes to framing researchers in their own space.
