UIL and CM2 researchers, Dr. Junfeng Jiao and Yefu Chen participated the 99th TRB annual conference.
One study (Yefu Chen and Dr. Jiao) explored the relationship between light rail transit and bus services in Seattle. They found that the substitution of light rail transit for bus only happened in areas with many existing public transit riders, which could be treated as a congestion substitution.
Another study (Shunhua Bai and Dr. Jiao) investigated the E-scooters usages and their relationships to built environments in Austin and Minneapolis. They found that E-scooters were widely used in the Downtowns and University Campuses in these two cities. Land use diversity and density had a major impact on E-scooter usages. Transportation Technology and shared mobility are major research areas in UIL and CM2.
During the conference, Dr. Jiao and Yefu also met two recent UIL&CM2 alumni: Chris Bischak and Antora Haque.
