The study of architectural history at the graduate level is taught with a constant awareness of global context, interdisciplinary challenges, and the evolving demands that students experience in design studios and other courses. Large survey courses include special sections for graduate students.

Requirements for students enrolled in the M.Arch. I program are:

  • ARC 387F World Architecture: Origins to 1750
  • ARC 387G World Architecture: Industrial Revolution to Present
  • ARC 388R Advanced history elective
  • ARC 388R Advanced history elective
  • ARC 386M or 388R Advanced history or theory elective

Note: Only one of the three required advanced architectural history courses may be taken abroad. The other two must be taken in residence.

Graduate students should note that the survey courses should be taken in sequence, and successful completion of the survey courses is required to taking advanced electives.
