This workshop-style course explores drawing as a creative practice that unfolds in space and time rather than only on paper or screen. Using an interdisciplinary approach, students will expand their perspective on drawing beyond the conventions of architectural representation. By considering work across various fields, students will engage in a series of full-scale experiments using a range of materials, media, means, methods, and drawing tools. This may include light drawings, ephemeral site-specific installations, mappings, and other mark-making adventures. Such experiments seek to contribute to the development of a critical perspective on drawing as a contemporary practice with spatial implications that are relevant to multiple creative disciplines. Weekly sessions include readings and project-based assignments. The final project is a visual portfolio of work produced throughout the semester, curated in relation to a working thesis.

This is an advanced visual representation/media course. Students are expected to contribute to seminar-style discussions and produce work independently with the instructor’s supervision. The course is also an adventure – expect to put in some serious work and you will have a lot of fun!
