Ph.D candidate Aabiya Noman Baquai presents "Citizenship through the Built Environment: A Visual Ethnography of Public Spaces with Christian Women in Islamabad, Pakistan."
How do Christian women from informal settlements conceive and experience citizenship in Islamabad through the built environment? Aabiya Baqai will answer this question by engaging in feminist-based participatory ethnography with such women in Pakistan’s capital city. Aabiya Baqai is a PhD candidate in the CRP program. She is originally from Pakistan but grew up in Saudi Arabia. Due to her experiences as an expatriate growing up in Saudi, and her research interests in housing and community development, she’s been interested in questions of citizenship and how that’s impacted by everyday experiences of different populations.
