Festschrift Symposium in Honor of Danilo Udovički-Selb
The proposed Festschrift in honor of former Associate Professor Danilo Udovički-Selb, a collaboration between the UT Austin School of Architecture (SoA) and the Center for Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies (CREEES), gathers internationally renowned architectural scholars, colleagues, and friends for a one-day symposium exploring the intersections of architectural scholarship and teaching, and leftist criticism and activism.
Participants include Mark Jarzombek, Mary McLeod, Joan Ockman, Vladimir Paperny, Alexander Ortenberg, Alla Vronskaya, and Francesco Passanti.
The proposed Festschrift upholds the task of “critical philosophy” of which Udovički-Selb’s scholarship and teaching—and more broadly, his life—have been exemplary. It asks, as Udovički-Selb has for over the past five decades: How does “a ruthless criticism of everything existing” help to find “new worlds[s]” that are “still freer, more progressive, and more human,” and what is the role of architectural scholarship and teaching in their concrete realization?
