Architectural Tile and Stone is a third-generation, family-owned, tile importer and slab fabricator in Austin. They carry granite and marble slabs from all over the world, though much of their material is sourced from quarries in Italy. Our group received a tour of the tile showroom as well as the indoor slab yard and fabrication facilities. The fabrication shop houses offices for in-house draftsmen, a 5-axis water jet cutter,a variety of stone saws and tools, and bridge crane with suction-based hoist for moving the heavy, fragile slabs.
This field trip is a coordinated effort with Interior Design Construction 2, taught by Tamie Glass.
