In September 2014, Materials Lab held a hands-on stone carving workshop led by the craftsmen who designed and fabricated the memorial benches in the Hal and Eden Box Courtyard of Goldsmith Hall. Kincannon Studios is an interdisciplinary studio led by Joseph and Holly Kincannon, who have been trained in architecture and planning as well as traditional methods of stone carving. Participants learned the basics using hand tools on a collaborative limestone piece that was initiated during the 2013 East Austin Studio Tour.
