Lecturer
Mark Maček is the founder and lead designer of Maček Furniture Company, specializing in custom furniture since 1995. The firm focuses on commissioned projects for a variety of spaces, including homes, businesses, schools and places of worship. Mark earned his Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Texas at Austin and honed his skills as an apprentice under master craftsman Louis Fry.
Maček Furniture Company showcased its production lines at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) in 2005 and 2006. Throughout his career, Mark has collaborated with notable firms and individuals, including Andersson Wise Architects, Page, Gensler, Populous, Holzman Moss Bottino, Alterstudio, Pollen, Furman Keil, Michael Benedikt, Paul Lamb, Miro Rivera, Dutch artist Maarten Baas and the National Football League.
As a member of the Guild of Austin Artisans, Mark is committed to promoting a renaissance in architectural ornamentation and handcraft. He has also participated in group design exhibitions at venues such as Cloud Tree Studios, Gallery Lombardi, Design Within Reach and the Mebane Gallery. Additionally, Mark manages the Splinter Group makerspace in East Austin.
Mark teaches woodworking and furniture design at the University of Texas School of Architecture and is currently collaborating with Vernon Press on a book titled "Teaching Wood: Material-Driven Design." His dedication to craftsmanship and mentorship was recognized in 2013 when the Texas Society of Architects honored him with the Artisan Honor Award.
