Simon Atkinson

Professor

Mike Hogg Professor in Community and Regional Planning

For the Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 semesters, I will be teaching:

  1. The Design of New Communities: a seminar and project that builds values and approaches to "community," "home," "access," and a climate-positive architecture. Detailed case studies are examined from the 19th century to current projects. (Fall 2024)

  2. Smart, Green, and Just, A Revised Agenda for Architecture: an examination with the use of detailed case studies of the values and methods towards a humane, intelligent and environmentally based city. (Spring 2025)

In the Spring Semester I will also focus on research and practice.  I am writing up "From Garden City to New Community " putting together an exploration and critique of the Hines Ubran Design Competition, and undertaking field work in Amsterdam, Freiburg, London and Stockholm.
