How do water, and our cultural relations with water, manifest in and shape the urban environment? The course focuses on North America, from European colonization to the present, with global examples from other places and other times. This is a history course, taking a cultural landscape approach: we will consider designed landscapes, and we will equally consider vernacular landscapes, working landscapes, and wastelands.

The class is intended as a collaborative exploration. Students take an active role in shaping investigations around their own interests. Open to students from all backgrounds.
