Alexander Architectural Archives in the Battle Hall Architecture and Planning Library

The Alexander Architectural Archives is an architectural research center of national importance situated within the Architecture and Planning Library. The Archives support research and education about the history of the built environment by acquiring and preserving research collections and making them accessible.

Architecture and Planning Library reading room

The Architecture and Planning Library features research collections in support of the School of Architecture, as well as campus, institutional and independent scholarship. The library stewards general collections of note in literature, visual and digital resources in various fields of architecture, planning, preservation, and related design disciplines, as well as Special Collections of over 20,000 volumes of rare, unique, and contextually significant publications. While international in scope, the collections contain significant materials on the built environment in Texas, the Southwest United States, and Latin America.

BUILD LAB

The Build Lab is a collection of fabrication shops on the first floor of Goldsmith Hall. It includes areas for casting concrete and plaster, a metal working shop, an extensive wood shop, a 25-station classroom work area, and a finish room. The Build Lab also features a large, covered exterior deck with electrical service and water.

MATERIALS LAB

One of the largest academic collections of materials in the world, The Materials Lab is a multidisciplinary resource dedicated to hands-on material investigation. With an ever-expanding collection of 29,000+ material product samples, and regularly scheduled workshops and events, the Materials Lab supports the advanced, interdisciplinary materials research, experimentation, and development needed to design and construct a better built environment.

TECHNOLOGY LAB

The Technology Lab houses several critical production and research facilities including the Technology Service Desk, the Digital Fabrication Lab, the Robotics Lab, and the offices of the Technology Research & Integration Group. The Lab also features self-service access to tabloid scanners, a large format scanner, and a 3D scanner, as well as group meeting areas, the Materials Exchange, and a variety of material processing resources.
