This course introduces the fundamentals of project management and leadership in architecture, engineering, interior design, and landscape architecture. Students learn how design concepts are transformed into built reality through effective planning, organization, communication, and financial control.

The course covers the full project life cycle—from project startup, scoping, budgeting, and scheduling to risk management, construction delivery, and project closeout. Students will explore both traditional and alternative delivery methods (Design–Bid–Build, Design–Build, Fast-Track, Bridging, and Integrated Project Delivery) as well as essential professional skills, including client relations, fee negotiation, revenue recognition, and earned value management.

In addition to architectural project management resources, the course incorporates concepts from the Project Management Institute’s (PMI) Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) and provides foundational preparation for the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)® examination. Through lectures, real-world case studies, role-playing exercises, and guest speakers from the design, construction, and real estate industries, students gain practical tools to manage design projects in the design professional context.
