Texas Society of Architects Recognize Alums, Faculty with 2026 Honor Awards

Congratulations to alumnus Mike McGlone (B.Arch ‘78), Professor Juan Miró and a handful of other School of Architecture alums who recently received Texas Society of Architects’ 2026 Honor Awards! One of Texas Society of Architects’ highest honors, the Honor Awards recognizes exceptional members, firms, individuals, and organizations for outstanding achievements in support of the profession of architecture, the built environment, and quality of life in Texas.  

A graduate of the School of Architecture’s Bachelor of Architecture Program, Mike McGlone, FAIA, was recognized with Texas Society of Architects’ highest honor, the Medal for Lifetime Achievement in Honor of Llewellyn W. Pitts, FAIA. Senior principal and co-founder of Alamo Architects, McGlone has spent more than 45 years shaping Texas architecture through visionary design, steadfast leadership, and an unwavering commitment to service. Throughout his career, McGlone has sought to elevate design and building processes in equal measure and to leverage the value of collaboration and engagement. He has helped grow his firm into a multidisciplinary design team of 68 and led some of its most prominent projects, including the Fairmount Hotel move and restoration, Pope John Paul II Mass site, SoFlo Office Studios, and Ruby City collaboration with Adjaye Associates. 

Professor Juan Miró, was recognized with Texas Society of Architects' O’Neil Ford Medal for Design Achievement. Miró is a founding partner of Miró Rivera Architects. Since 1997, Miró and co-founder Miguel Rivera, FAIA, have created a body of work spanning a remarkable range of scales, types, and locations, with each project reflecting a deep understanding of the client’s program, the uniqueness of its site, and its cultural context. Among their most notable works are the Lake Austin Pedestrian Bridge, Chinmaya Mission, Trail Restroom, and Circuit of the Americas Observation Tower and Grandstand in Austin; the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities in San Antonio; Rice Student Center in Houston; and Crítica in Monterrey, Mexico. Miró has been a faculty member at UTSOA for nearly 30 years. He was named a Distinguished Professor by the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture and belongs to the UT Academy of Distinguished Teachers. In 2015, he received the Texas Society of Architects’ Award for Outstanding Educational Contributions and the University of Texas Regents’ Outstanding Teaching Award.
