Centerline 11: Critical Mass

NOVEMBER 2016

Buildings are heavy. The value of this simple circumstance is underappreciated in a culture that romanticizes the temporary and provisional, a situation further encouraged by an engineering zeitgeist founded squarely on the ideal of dematerialization, or achieving more with literally less. But there are many kinds of less. The focus of Critical Mass is on architectural work that derives expression, experience, and meaning from the native mass of building.
