The University of Texas at Austin School of Architecture invites applications and nominations for its 2025–2027 Emerging Scholar in Design Fellowship. This prestigious, two-year fellowship, commencing August 15, 2025, offers promising individuals at the beginning of their academic careers in architecture and its allied fields the opportunity to develop a distinctive body of work and to provide a unique teaching experience in the context of a supportive academic environment. The school is seeking a candidate who is highly motivated and positioned to integrate their scholarly trajectory with their pedagogical agenda at particular, self-selected scales and modalities.

Background

The University of Texas at Austin is one of the largest and most highly regarded public research universities in the United States, situated in its 11th most populous city, Austin, which is consistently ranked one of the best places to live in the USA. The School of Architecture at UT Austin offers professionally accredited degree programs in Architecture, Interior Design, Landscape Architecture, and Community and Regional Planning as well as accredited post-professional and research degree programs in Sustainable Design, Urban Design, Historic Preservation, and Architectural History. The school houses one of the largest building-materials libraries in the United States, an extensive book library, a Technology Lab dedicated to supporting research in AR/VR, drones, robotics, and digital fabrication, as well as interdisciplinary access, if arranged, to the University’s vast intellectual and research resources. 

Qualifications

The scholar will teach two design studios and one elective or support course each year. Teaching responsibilities may involve both graduate and undergraduate students. In addition to teaching, the successful candidate is expected to contribute to the school's intellectual life by engaging in critical theoretical or creative work, which they will develop during their time as the emerging scholar and present to the SOA community in the last semester of their appointment in a public format, such as a symposium and/or exhibition, and a work-in-progress presentation around the end of their first year.
