Architectural Record’s Design:ED Podcast Episodes with Alum Aaron Prinz
As a student at The University of Texas at Austin School of Architecture, alumnus Aaron Prinz (M. Arch ’20) launched the Design:ED podcast in 2018 to offer an inside look into the field of architecture told from the perspective of individuals who are leading the industry. Since then, Prinz has interviewed renowned architects and designers from top firms, including Art Gensler, Kengo Kuma, Juliane Wolf, and Glenn Murcutt, as well as rising professionals like Pascale Sablan, Michael Murphy, and Jenny Wu.
In late 2020, Architectural Record acquired the podcast, and Aaron continues to host twice-monthly podcasts with guests working at every scale who share their professional highs and lows, as well as lessons learned throughout their careers.
“I started the podcast as a way for me to better understand how to build a career in architecture,” Prinz said. “We always hear about these great designers doing great work. As a student, I found it applicable to hear about the early years of their career, with the struggles and breakthroughs, so that I might apply some of their successes to my own life. I never would have thought that this podcast would one day be part of Architectural Record. I do not know a more influential architecture publication that has contributed so much to the conversation about architecture than Architectural Record. It is not just flashy images; they are dedicated to the discourse of architecture. Our audience is continuing to grow, and so are the guests that we are featuring. I’m just so excited to be able to share these stories with the larger architecture community.”
During his time at the UT School of Architecture, Prinz interviewed many faculty members, visiting lecturers, and UTSOA alumni, reflecting a slate of different voices and perspectives from members of our community.
