Tell us about your PRP firm. Where are you working?
I was very fortunate to be placed within the internship program at Page Southerland Page, Inc., also known as Page located here in Austin, Texas. Originally founded in 1932 by three main architects, it has now grown into the largest architectural firm in Austin and features over 1,300 staff assigned throughout 25 locations throughout the U.S. The Austin office employs just over 250 people.

What is currently on your desk? What are you working on?
My desk is actually pretty full at the moment: a water bottle, a yo-yo (for my exciting ten-minute breaks), mechanical pencils and several stacks of architectural drawings as I am currently working in the Design Development process of an early college high school campus here in Austin. I have been consistently busy with floor plans, sections and elevations.

Describe the firm culture? The office atmosphere?
The culture here is a collaborative effort in every respect. It is a very professional, hard-working, and yet welcoming atmosphere where you are treated as a team member. Another aspect I enjoy is being able to observe the schematic and developmental design process by those who are not architects as other disciplines are present in the Austin office. Structural, mechanical and electrical engineers are presently working in collaborative teams on multiple projects. Business development, graphic design and interior designers also play critical roles in the overall development of architectural projects. It has been very eye-opening to see how it all works.

What is the first thing you'll tell your classmates upon your return to UT?
I would tell them to make sure to take advantage of PRP! The experience is so invaluable; it will develop you in so many ways. I know that I will have greater confidence and overall understanding of architectural design coming back for my last Advanced Design studio because of the experience I’ve gained working within an architectural firm.

As you’re finishing up the week, what are your plans for this weekend?
I was thinking about going roller skating as it is a favorite pastime of mine. Besides that, depending on the weather, I may grill out and watch some college football!
