Fall 2026 public programming: At Home In The World

This year's lecture series, At Home in the World, explores how design and critical inquiry operate within an era defined by planetary interdependence. 

Rather than framing “home” as a bounded or inward condition, the theme positions it as a situated yet open field—one that connects the immediate and the everyday with larger disciplinary and planetary contexts. Through research, practice, representation, and theorization, the series considers design and critical inquiry as relational modes capable of negotiating and reimagining our place within an interconnected world. 

In response to the prompts of this theme, this semester’s public lectures include Frans van Vuure of UNS North America; Felipe Correa of Somatic Collaborative/Aspen Institute; Mark Lee of Johnston Marklee; Michael Maltzan of Michael Maltzan Architecture; Christy Ten Eyck of Ten Eyck Landscape Architects; and Little Wing Lee of Studios & Projects.  

On October 1 and 2, the School of Architecture hosts the symposium BLOCKWORK: Concrete Masonry Architecture of the Americas, convened by Professor Francisco Gomes with support from The Concrete Masonry Checkoff (The Beauty of Block) and the Texas Masonry Council. The BLOCKWORK symposium features architect presentations, roundtable discussions, and an in-depth look at the spatial and expressive potentials of concrete masonry.  

In addition to the lecture series and symposium, the school will host two exhibitions, beginning with StudioPaolaViganò’s The Biopolitical Garden on August 28-September 24. Beginning October 12, Johnston Marklee presents the exhibition Looks and Books.  

All events are free and open to the public and will occur in person at 5 PM in the Goldsmith Lecture Hall (310 Inner Campus Drive, Room 3.120) unless noted otherwise.
