Goldsmith Hall (Northwest corner, facing Guadalupe Street)
The University of Texas at Austin
All are invited to the opening ceremony and celebration for the Living Wall Project, an initiative of the School of Architecture at The University of Texas at Austin in collaboration with the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center.
The Living Wall Project investigates the interweaving of architecture and ecology and underscores the university's commitment to green design. Comprised of native plants anchored in an innovative honeycomb structure, the 10 x 25-foot wall will beautify the school, serve as a bio-habitat on campus, and provide valuable data and insight into native flora, fauna, green design, and sustainability. The project was partially funded by the University's Green Fee Award.
Initially conceived as a pilot program by UT Vice President for Operations Pat Clubb, the Living Wall was shepherded by the School of Architecture's Dean Fritz Steiner and Assistant Professor Danelle Briscoe, along with Michelle Bright, an environmental designer at the Wildflower Center.
The ceremony will be dedicated to the late Mark Simmons, former Director of Research and Consulting for the Ecosystem Design Group at the Wildflower Center, whose research greatly informed the project.
