Our Students Get Hired
At UTSOA, we are committed to preparing our students for life outside our halls, and we recently got the rankings to prove it. DesignIntelligence, one of the most influential and widely cited program rankings in architecture education, ranked three of our design disciplines as among the “Most Hired From” programs in the country within our size group: Architecture at #1, Interior Design at #3, and Landscape Architecture at #4.
These prestigious national rankings are an indication of the quality of our instruction, the experience of our faculty and our school’s commitment to helping students achieve career and personal success. As Dean Michelle Addington put it:
“Not only do our programs have a strong conceptual foundation, but our curricula feature a strategic balance of depth and breadth, and our faculty are committed to student success. At UTSOA, we strive to connect what our students learn here to what’s happening in the world around them, which helps build their capacity to make meaningful contributions to the professions and society at large”
Within our classrooms and design studios, these achievements are accomplished by incorporating true interdisciplinarity into the school’s curriculum, engaging students in research and large-scale experiential projects, and offering them the opportunity to travel and explore their relationship to the built environment in various ways.
Outside the classroom, our Career Services office provides students with guidance through one-on-one meetings and group workshops scheduled throughout the semester, and it connects students to the professional community through networking events, panels, and employer presentations throughout the year. Every spring , Career Services hosts our annual Career Fair, which connects students with representatives and alumni from more than one-hundred respected firms from around the country.
Our Professional Residency Program (PRP) also offers opportunities for students to enhance their education through work experience in the profession, while also receiving course credit. For more than twenty-five years, PRP has placed UTSOA students with more than 300 prestigious firms in thirty countries, offering students the opportunity to explore aspects of the practice of architecture not typically experienced in the classroom in order to develop real-world skills and their professional profiles upon graduation.
