Andrea Nelson

Build Lab Manager

UT Alumni, carpenter, and artist, Andrea Nelson has over 30 years of experience in a broad range of building and finishing techniques.  From design to framing to cabinetry, she has touched upon most of the creation and renovation processes of the residential built environment.  She worked for several years in a fast-paced modern design-build shop that specialized in temporary builds for events and commercial interiors, building novel structures with strict assembly/disassembly time limits, making and teaching specialty finishes, and scenic painting.

In an effort to better understand and design for climate change in the residential sector, Andrea acquired permaculture certification and has also sought out and learned through experience several alternative building systems like straw bale, hemp-crete, and earth-bag superadobe.

Andrea has teenage daughters, cats and a snake, loves to play bass, roller skate, and garden.
