Laura Grenard, M.Arch '12, led a hands-on workshop on the art of felting, which converts loose wool fibers into a non-woven textile through simple mechanical processes. We had a great time learning to wet felt by hand with wool roving and batts supplied by The McRanch in Dripping Springs.

There are currently 5 buildings under construction in the southeast part of the campus that will comprise the first phase of the new UT Dell Medical School. This presentation will focus on the master plan for the district done in 2013 and on the new Education/Administration Building on the corner of Red River and 15th Street.

On Friday, September 25, the Center for American Architecture and Design hosted Benjamin Rice, UTSOA's new Research Scientist Associate focused on digital fabrication, as part of the Friday Lunch Forum series.

Roughly every other Friday during the fall and spring semesters, the Center hosts the Friday Lunch Forum Series. The aim of the series is for faculty, staff, and students to meet in an informal atmosphere to debate topics and to share ideas about history, practice, theory, and new directions for architecture.

The Visual Resources Collection will be offering an introductory workshop—The Basics of Photographic Composition—on Friday, September 25, 2015 from 10am–12pm.

This single, two-hour session will focus on familiarizing participants with image composition best practices. The first part of the session will cover the basics of selective focus and depth of field and how they relate to aperture with a concentration on architecture, urban landscape, and model photography. The remaining time will be spent on a walking tour of campus to practice the techniques in the field.

Winka Dubbeldam is the founder and president of Archi-Tectonics and Professor and Chair of the Department of Architecture at the University of Pennsylvania. She has lectured and taught at several other graduate programs in architecture including Columbia, Harvard, and Cornell. She served as juror at several design and AIA awards, and for the Prix de Rome and the Architecture Biennale in Bogota.
